Bezpala Brown Gallery was established by Lyudmila Bezpala-Brown and Darrell Brown. The genesis for the Gallery was their extensive travel, work and interaction with the art communities in Europe, Eurasia and South-east Asia. After re-settling in Canada, the Browns contacted several of the most accomplished artists from many of the countries of their travels including, in particular, from the former Soviet and Yugoslav Republics with the objective of making a new home for their art in Toronto. A core group of acclaimed artists now form the nucleus of the Gallery's permanent collection.
Bezpala Brown Gallery is not only dedicated to promoting renowned artists in a new venue. A prime objective is to discover and promote new Canadian talent. This meshing of new with new to Canada, provides a unique recipe and opportunity for collectors and art enthusiasts in the Toronto art community to experience paintings, photography and sculptures of various contemporary styles sourced from such diverse locations as Russia, Ukraine, Macedonia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, South America, Switzerland, the United States and Canada.
Our first two years of operation have generated considerable recognition with five Globe and Mail reviews, coverage across Canada by the Canwest group of media companies and several dedicated television productions.
Our location at 17 Church Street is in the heart of Old Town Toronto, just one block from the famous St. Lawrence Market. The Gallery offers nearly 1800 square feet of space facilitating a number of exhibition rooms and a studio for artists-in-residence or guest artists. In addition to our frequent exhibitions, we offer the opportunity to rent our facilities for office entertainment functions and have sponsored a number of unique entertainment events including an opera recital, foreign movie and documentary premieres, academic lectures, association meetings and other private receptions.
Lyudmila and Darrell have also established a non-profit corporation, the Bezpala Brown Centre for Integration, which is dedicated to supporting the integration of new Canadians into the Canadian art scene, assisting with their business development, providing educational programmes on art, and generating funding for the promotion and development of Canadian art talent.
